Today is a frigid minus 32 degrees Celsius. Yet people manage to (albeit briskly) get on with their everyday lives. Which begs the question, how do you stay sane when respite comes in the form of negative “single digit” temperatures. The answer may lie in the enclosed garden atop the city centre mall, heated to a balmy 15 degrees.

Or gallons of coffee.

Ok, so for most people Salt Lake City isn’t exactly Paradise City. However they do look after the birds.

Who said there was nothing to do in Salt Lake?

Given that it was the forefathers of the Mormon faith that settled in the valley that now holds Salt Lake City. It seemed only fair to visit the home of the LDS Church. The visit may have also been due to the lack of anything to do in Salt Lake City itself, except go to the movies.

Click for more if you dare! In all honesty, the Mormon sisters who gave me a personal tour of the temple square were delightful for the entirety of the half hour walk and presentation. At the end of the tour they sing for each group, which in my case was a little embarrassing because I was the sole member of the party, trapped in a little room.

Finishing the week skiing Jackson Hole brings me to the half way point of the trip. A few inches fell overnight to spruce up our last day skiing before the trip back to Salt Lake City. So for now, a gallery of Jackson Hole images that didn’t fit elsewhere.

Two years ago I peered over the forty foot cornice at the top of Corbet’s Couloir and decided it wasn’t really a good idea.

Today was a different story.

The trees of Casper Bowl (to my right) set the scene for the decent from the top of the Headwall at Jackson Hole Wyoming.

Twenty-five minutes of 45+ degree boot pack from the top of the gondola at Jackson Hole is the entrance to Casper Bowl. No signs, no warning labels just untracked snow between the trees and above the knees.

Snow.

It’s snowing, and yet I have only managed a few camera phone images. At some point I will take my camera out skiing. Untill now, meet Mr Plough.
